PanCAN Benefit Programs Set

Lancaster author Sherry V. Ostroff will support her friend Randi Jacobs' fundraising efforts for pancreatic cancer research by donating 10 percent of the purchase price on all sales of her books during September to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (PanCAN). "The Lucky One" and "Caledonia" are available in paperback and e-book formats at Amazon.com.

Jacobs, a 10-year pancreatic cancer survivor from Lancaster, will also participate in the PanCAN's PurpleStride Philadelphia walk in November to end pancreatic cancer. Friends and family members will join Ann's Dream Team to support Jacobs and honor the memories of her mother and grandmother and celebrate her 10-year survival.

Jacobs was diagnosed with pre-pancreatic cancer in 2009 through a clinical study at Penn Medicine focused on individuals who lost two immediate relatives to pancreatic cancer. Jacobs lost her mother in 2006 and her grandmother in 1985. Jacobs and her two sisters each received an MRI and endoscopic ultrasound to determine if they had the disease. Her sisters' test results were negative. When Jacobs' results returned positive, she had surgery the following week to remove the portion of the pancreas where the cancer cells were located. She receives an MRI annually.
