Parish Marks Anniversary

St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church is celebrating its 175th anniversary. On May 19, the Most Rev. Ronald Gainer, Bishop of Harrisburg, was the celebrant at the 10:30 a.m. Mass, which was followed by a catered luncheon and special event.

The original church was built in 1840 and consecrated in 1844, and it was established as St. Patrick's by Bishop Francis Kenrick of Philadelphia. In July 1857, St. John Neumann rededicated the church to St. Catherine of Siena, which is now in the church's cemetery with the original foundation still intact. In 1896, construction began for the next church in Quarryville. St. Catherine moved to its current building on Robert Fulton Highway in 1996.
