Park Activity Schedule Set

Lancaster County Department of Parks and Recreation will offer programs to the community. Unless otherwise noted, there is a per-person fee, and activities will take place at the Environmental Center in Lancaster County Central Park, 1 Nature's Way, Lancaster. Additionally, registration and payment are required by noon on the business day before the event unless otherwise stated. Nature Story Time: "Owl Moon," a program for children age 2 and older, will run from 10 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 11. A naturalist will lead story time followed by a presentation of the Environmental Center's owl specimen collection.

Bird Study Merit Badge will be offered on Dec. 11 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The program will assist the Scouts age 10 and older in completing specific requirements for the Bird Study Merit Badge. Participation in the annual Christmas Bird Count scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 18, at the Environmental Center will fulfill the remaining requirements. Participants should dress for extended time walking and birdwatching outdoors and bring a water bottle, snack, and lunch as well as a field notebook, binoculars, and a bird guide, if possible.

Hibernation: Where Did All the Animals Go? will be offered on Sunday, Dec. 12, from 1 to 2:30 p.m. A naturalist will lead a group discussion on hibernating animals, how they stay warm, and where they hide. Participants age 8 and older should dress appropriately for a short hike and lesson about hibernation.

Holiday Papermaking, for people of all ages, will take place on Thursday, Dec. 16, from 10 to 11 a.m. and 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Participating artists may use provided materials to create unique papers, and they may also bring additional materials like dried flowers, seeds, and cookie cutters. They should dress for a potentially messy craft.
