Lancaster County Department of Parks and Recreation will offer programs to the community. Unless otherwise noted, there is a per-person fee, and activities will take place at the Environmental Center in Lancaster County Central Park, 1 Nature's Way, Lancaster. A Grandparent Connection: Bones, a program designed for children ages 4 to 12, will take place from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 29. The program will offer an opportunity for older adults to pass on a love of nature and science to the younger generation, whether related or not, or to allow both generations simply to be inquisitive together. Using an assortment of skeletal specimens from the park's collection, a naturalist will lead participants through close examination of various animals' skeletons.
In preparation for Groundhog Day, Groundhog Fun will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. on Jan. 29 for people of all ages. Activities will include a craft and a discussion about groundhogs. Participants should dress warmly for a short hike to search for signs of these animals.
TNT Science: Microscopic World will be offered from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 1, at Pavilion 22, 1101 Kiwanis Drive, Lancaster. Participants ages 11 to 17 will learn to use a variety of microscopes and apply their skills to observe plant and animal cells, pond organisms, and other life forms that humans are normally unaware of. Parents must sign a release waiver before dropping off their children.
