Park Activity Schedule Set

Lancaster County Department of Parks and Recreation will offer programs to the community. Unless otherwise noted, there is a per-person fee, and activities will take place at the Environmental Center in Lancaster County Central Park, 1 Nature's Way, Lancaster. Additionally, registration and payment are required by noon on the business day before the event unless otherwise stated. Daisy Girl Scouts: Math in Nature will take place on Saturday, Dec. 4. Three separate programs will be offered for Daisy Girl Scouts age 5 and older in the new badge series. Shapes in Nature will run from 9 to 10:15 a.m., followed by Numbers in Nature from 10:45 a.m. to noon and then Design With Nature from 12:30 to 1:45 p.m. Attendees should bring a water bottle, a nut-free snack, and/or lunch (if registering for all three programs).

Introduction to Compass Skills for people of all ages will be held from 3 to 4:30 p.m. on Dec. 4. Participants will learn about compass use and integrate pace to complete practice courses in the Environmental Center vicinity. Attendees should dress for the weather and for walking on woodland trails and mowed fields.

Munchkin Science: Animals in Winter will be offered to children ages 3 to 5 from 1 to 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 7. Participants will learn about the various ways animals survive winter's freezing temperatures. A naturalist will lead a walk to find signs of animals still active during the winter.

Homeschool Wednesday: Monarch Migration will take place from 10 to 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 8. The winter homeschool class for students ages 8 to 12 will study monarch migration. Participants should wear old clothing and plan for indoor and outdoor activity. Children under age 8 may attend if accompanying older siblings.

Jump Into STEM: Painting With Nature, for 3- to 5-year-olds, has been set for Thursday, Dec. 9, from 10 to 11 a.m. Preschool scientists will learn about different parts of evergreen plants, enjoy an interactive presentation, and experiment with using various evergreens as paintbrushes. All supplies will be provided.

Full Moon Scavenger Hunt, for people of all ages, will take place on Dec. 9 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Participants will have free range of the woods and fields surrounding the Environmental Center as they attempt to find all items on the provided scavenger hunt list by the light of the full moon.
