Park Programs Slated

The Lancaster County Department of Parks and Recreation will offer programs to the community. Unless otherwise noted, there is a per-person fee for the programs, most of which will take place at the Environmental Center in Lancaster County Central Park, 1 Nature's Way, Lancaster. Children under age 3 may attend for free. Registration and payment are required by noon on the business day before the event, unless stated otherwise.

Nature Play, designed for children ages 12 to 36 months, will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. on Friday, April 26. Children will explore the world around them and engage with peers. Parent participation is essential to the success of this program.

Earth Day Kids' Kraft, for children age 3 and up, will be offered on Saturday, April 27, from 1 to 2 p.m. Participants will enjoy craft stations, and children may take home their creations.

What Can Trees Do for You? - Arbor Day Hike, designed for all ages, will be held on April 27 from 2 to 3 p.m. Participants will hike with a naturalist, learn tree identification tips, and learn how native trees are valuable.

DIY Pollinator Seed Balls, open to all ages, will be offered on Sunday, April 28, from noon to 1 p.m. Participants will make seed balls, which can be used to transform any landscape into a native wildflower patch. Attendees will also learn how to attract pollinators to their backyard.

A Forest Plant Review for the Junior and Middle School Envirothon will be offered to individuals age 8 and older on April 28. Sessions will be held from 1 to 2:30 p.m. and from 3 to 4:30 p.m. The program will include a slideshow presentation and a hands-on review of required forest plant species. Participants should dress for the weather and for walking on and off trails.

An Outdoor Art Creator program for Brownie Girl Scouts ages 6 to 10 will take place on Saturday, May 4, from 1 to 3 p.m. Girl Scouts will take a nature walk, write a song about their inspirations, fashion a momento in clay, and use oil pastels to create a natural scene. Afternoon activities will conclude as girls make Brownie elf homes and leave them for our woodland sprites.

A Wildflower Walk will be offered for people of all ages on Sunday, May 5, from 1 to 2:30 p.m. and again on Thursday, May 9, from 3 to 4:30 p.m. at Central Park. Participants should meet at the covered bridge parking lot, located near 21 Kiwanis Drive, Lancaster. Participants will explore the woodlands and lawns for spring wildflowers. They will learn ways to identify the plants and learn about their value to humans and wildlife.
