A Family Campout Night will be held at Nixon County Park, Nixon Drive, York, on Friday, June 21, at 7 p.m. to Saturday, June 22, at 9:30 a.m. Families are invited to bring their tent and sleeping bags to sleep outdoors in celebration of the first day of summer. Family fun activities will be available, including a time to share campfire stories. Attendees should bring marshmallows and/or hotdogs for a nighttime snack. A gourmet s'mores bar will be provided. Participants will enjoy a light breakfast followed by a sunrise hike with a naturalist. In the event of severe weather, sleeping will occur inside the Nature Center. There is a cost to participate.
A Porch Talk will take place at the Hanover Junction Train Station on Wednesday, June 26, from 7 to 8 p.m. Park volunteer, the Rev. Curt Weber, will discuss Joshua Chamberlain's roles in the Civil War in his talk titled "What's So Great About Joshua Chamberlain?" The museum will also be open from 6 to 8 p.m. Attendees should bring a blanket or chair. No registration is required for the free program. The program is suitable for individuals age 14 to adult.
A free Woods Wander Program at Rocky Ridge County Park on Wednesdays, July 10 and Aug. 7, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. The program will let participants wander through the woods with a naturalist to investigate anything they see, hear, or find. The walk is for people of all ages and may go on different trails each week. Wanderers should meet at the bulletin board in the Oak Timbers Parking Area.
