The spring 2020 term of the Pathways Institute for Lifelong Learning at Landis Homes began with a kickoff reception on Jan. 31. More than 250 persons participated in the event, held at Calvary Church.
Evon Bergey, Landis Communities vice president of community initiatives, gave opening remarks. Advisory board chair Richard Cook, who has also been a student and an instructor, served as moderator for the program. Following comments by new Pathways director Anastasia Petrovskaya, class instructors and class titles were introduced by Landis Homes resident and Pathways board member Judy Sargent. Pathways Institute catalogs were distributed, and attendees were able to visit class instructors at display tables around the room.
More than 40 courses and learning opportunities, which will run from March through May, are open to all Lancaster County residents and residents from neighboring counties who are age 55 and older. New class topics include "The Roaring Twenties: When America Went Wild," "Vegetables That Help You Feel Great," "Understanding Your Apple Tech Devices in a Changing World," "The Underground Railroad Origins in Southeastern Pennsylvania and Lancaster County," and "Gifts of Celtic Christianity." There are also more classes focused on nature, history, and religion. There are also day trips and special events offered in addition to the regular classes.
There is a registration fee, which includes enrollment in to up to eight courses per semester, as well as a per-course payment option.
Most classes are held on the Landis Homes campus, located at 1001 E. Oregon Road, Lititz.
