Pedersen, McQuiddy Receive Recognition

Two Lower Dauphin High School seniors were recently recognized. Kayla Pedersen was named Young Woman of the Month for January by the Women's Club of Hummelstown, and Tristan McQuiddy was named Student of the Month for January by the Rotary Club of Hummelstown.

Kayla is the daughter of Daniel and Cherie Pedersen. She is a four-year member of the girls' volleyball and girls' lacrosse teams. She has played the clarinet for four years as a member of the concert band and marching band and for three years in the orchestra and in the spring musical pit orchestra. She is a four-year member of the Mini-THON committee and participates in several honor societies, including National Honor Society, Science National Honor Society and National English Honor Society.

In the community, Kayla plays club volleyball and participates in community service projects.

She plans to attend Salisbury University's Honors College to major in math and psychology with a potential interest in industrial engineering. She also intends to play volleyball.

Tristan is the son of Tabitha and Jason McQuiddy. He is a four-year member of the marching band, serving the past two years as drum major. He also plays the clarinet in the concert band, the orchestra and the spring musical's pit orchestra. He is a member of the high school's choral program and several honor societies, including National Honor Society, Tri-M Music Honor Society, Science National Honor Society, National English Honor Society, Math Honor Society and Spanish National Honor Society.

In the community, Tristan volunteers with Study Buddies, a mentoring program in which high school students work with elementary students. This program is sponsored by Lower Dauphin Communities That Care.

He hopes to attend Northwestern University to major in music theory and composition.
