Phan Wins Scholarship

Kelly Phan of Lancaster, a junior graphic design major at Pennsylvania College of Art & Design (PCA&D), has been selected as the 2021 recipient of the Mary Colleen Heil Presidential Scholarship at PCA&D. Phan's participation in college and department activities and her professionalism led to the recommendation for the scholarship.

Pam Barby, chair of PCA&D's graphic design department, noted that Phan is highly committed to each project she works on and is open to constructive criticism to improve her product. Barby added that Phan's internship with the college's gallery has added to her experience in a team environment. Phan has also worked as a Writing Center tutor to her peers and is an active member of the student group American Institute of Graphic Arts (AIGA). She has been a volunteer designer in PCA&D's annual Designathon event to benefit local nonprofit organizations.

This scholarship award was established by the board of trustees of PCA&D in 2018 to honor president emeritus Mary Colleen Heil in recognition of her 25 years of leadership and dedication to the college. The scholarship is awarded annually to an exceptional rising junior who has been identified by the dean of the faculty in consultation with the department chairs.
