Photographer Eric Weeks opened a new exhibition, "twentysix wawa stores," at Street Road Project, 725 Street Road, Cochranville. The exhibit by the Pennsylvania College of Art & Design (PCA&D) photography and video chair will run through Saturday, May 28.
A dialogue with Edward Ruscha's seminal 1962 work "Twentysix Gasoline Stations," "twentysix wawa stores" examines the convenience store and gas station in light of America's relationship to the automobile at this 21st-century transportation crossroads. The project's accompanying film follows the Lincoln Highway as it stretches from Lancaster to the farthest north Wawa store, in Elizabeth, N.J., and will also screen at Street Road Project. A companion book, marking the 60th anniversary of Ruscha's project and made possible through a PCA&D Faculty Development Grant, will be released under the Street Road imprint.
