Pink Power Slates Fundraiser

Oct 29, 2020 - 7:00 pm

The first-ever Pink Power Pajama Party will bring up to 1,000 women together for the fourth annual Pink Power event to raise money for local breast cancer-related causes. Ladies are invited to don their favorite pink pajamas and assemble friends either virtually or socially distanced at one location on Thursday, Oct. 29. Log-on will open at 6:30 p.m., with the event from 7 to 8:15 p.m.

In a mix of live and prerecorded segments, the interactive festivities will include a Pink Power cocktail demonstration, the traditional celebratory survivor toast, remarks by keynote speaker Jane Rice, patient testimonials, drawings every 10 minutes, and an online auction. Winners must be present on Zoom for the drawings. The online auction began on Oct. 27 at noon and will end on Oct. 29 at 9:30 p.m. The Zoom event is for women only, but the auction is open to anyone.

The event will be hosted by Pink Power founder and president Denise DelGrosso Gilliland with Pink Power Committee members Victoria Connor, Nikki Johnson, Renee Maderitz, Brenda Parrini, Kim Shackelford, and Kathleen Smith. Gilliland, Connor, Maderitz, and Parrini are breast cancer survivors.

Although the format has changed, the event's mission and beneficiaries remain the same. Proceeds from the Pink Power Pajama Party ticket sales, online auction, donations, and corporate sponsorships will benefit breast cancer patients via services provided by Penn State Hershey Cancer Institute Genetics Program, UPMC Pinnacle Breast Care Center, WellSpan York Cancer Center, and Pink Ink Project.

The inaugural Girls Night Out in 2017 raised $40,000; the second Girls Night Out in 2018 raised $88,000; and last year's event raised $100,000.
