For 10 weeks, entrepreneurs have participated in Ben Franklin's TechCelerator program, an intensive business startup boot camp program that helps to launch startups across central Pennsylvania. Seven local tech entrepreneurs will pitch presentations to a panel of judges at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 12, at The Candy Factory, 342 N. Queen St., Lancaster. The winning presenters will receive up to $10,000.
Companies that will present pitches include the following. Boostpoint (Sam Beiler and Jared Neff) provides an easy way for small businesses to advertise on Facebook and Instagram at a lower price than a marketing agency might charge; Design Trail (Veronika Miller) is a local recommendation/review platform like Yelp that focuses only on the design market; Fiction Formula (Benbruno Nkapbela) has developed a new approach to drug discovery that integrates systems, biology, and ethnopharmacology to mitigate the time and risk of finding novel targets; and Gavl (Carl Richter and Takaaki Agawa) is developing a Tinder-esque competition app that will randomly compare two pieces of creative content - such as art, music, or photos - in a peer-versus-peer contest format.
Also, MakeCents DIY Garage (Amelia Pharo-Frank) provides safe, convenient, reliable, and customer-orientated service bay rentals for the shade tree mechanics needing space; Mission Athletics (Marvin Sanders) is creating a mobile app that provides under-served athletes and fitness enthusiasts affordable training from experienced coaches through videos and virtual interactions using artificial intelligence; and Plexis (Phil Immediato and Zach Hurst) is an event-based social media platform focused on giving its users the ability to create and participate in real life events without the distractions that come with other social media platforms.
The public is invited to support the local entrepreneurs and stay for a networking reception that follows the pitches. Attendees will have a vote for the Fan Favorite Pitch. The event is free, but registration is required by visiting http://www.eventbrite.com.
