Police Department Posts Scam Alert

The Lititz Borough Police Department (LBPD) has warned residents about recent scams involving callers who identified themselves as members of the LBPD. The callers then asked for money in the form of donations to the police department.

The calls appear to have come from the phone numbers 717-474-2259 and 717-474-2029. Scammers have also been known to spoof legitimate LBPD phone numbers, as residents reported their caller ID showing the calls were coming from the LBPD.

As of Aug. 2, the LBPD was not aware of anyone who had become a victim of this scam, and the LBPD encourages residents to report these incidents to their local police department. The LBPD noted that it does not solicit for donations over the phone, will not ask for payments over the phone and will not ask for money for a criminal matter. If someone asks for a payment in the form of a gift card, people should be suspicious as this request is often a scam.
