Post 475, Scout Groups Place Flags On Graves

On May 18, members of the Charles F. Moran American Legion Post 475 of Downingtown, assisted by Scouts from Cub Scout Pack 23 and Scout Troop 23, also of Downingtown, placed flags on veterans' graves. The flags were placed at the Hopewell United Methodist Church cemetery, the East Brandywine Baptist Church cemetery, and the Lindley Hill Cemetery. Lindley Hill, an African-American cemetery in Downingtown, is the final resting place of a dozen veterans, nine of whom served during the Civil War.

Each year, just prior to Memorial Day, veterans' organizations, such as the American Legion, replace the worn flags on the graves of comrades who have served in the military. The Scouts' participation helps the youths learn about citizenship and patriotism.
