On Friday, Sept. 27, LancasterHistory will welcome the first speaker for the Presidential Lecture Series, Dr. John M. Belohlavek of the University of South Florida, who will lecture on "President James Buchanan's Foreign Policies and the Union." Dr. Thomas Balcerski of Eastern Connecticut State University will return to LancasterHistory on Thursday, Oct. 17, to present work from his most recent publication, "Bosom Friends: The Intimate World of James Buchanan and William Rufus King." Balcerski will discuss the significance of the friendship and political collaboration between Buchanan and William Rufus King, ambassador and politician. Through the lives of Buchanan and King, Balcerski illustrates the role that intimate male friendships played in the political process throughout American history.
Concluding the series, Dr. Joshua Lynn of Eastern Kentucky University will present "James Buchanan and the Preservation of the White Man's Republic" on Friday, Nov. 22.
