Changes Announced For Produce Voucher Program

Each year the Lancaster County Office of Aging distributes vouchers that can be used at farmers markets to purchase fruits and vegetables grown in Pennsylvania. The vouchers are part of a Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture program that supports local farmers and provides nutrition to people age 60 and over.

In order to participate in the program, people need to live in Lancaster County; be age 60 or older by Thursday, Dec. 31; have an annual income at or below $23,606 for one person or $31,894 for two people; and not live in a facility where their food is provided.

This year, there are changes to the program. Each eligible person will receive four vouchers valued at $6 each, instead of $5 as in previous years. The vouchers can only be obtained by completing a short application and mailing it to the Lancaster County Office of Aging. Due to the pandemic, the vouchers will not be distributed in person at either senior centers or the Office of Aging.

Once a completed application is received, the vouchers and a list of markets will be mailed to the applicant's home. The application is available by visiting http://www.lancoaging.org or by calling the Office of Aging at 717-299-7979.
