Program Provides Hearing Aids

On Dec. 3, the world started to sound different for 14 patients at A&E Audiology, based in Lancaster. That is the day they were fitted for hearing aids as part of the Circle of Giving program operated through A&E Audiology's nonprofit organization, A&E Hearing Connection. The organization provides hearing health care, including hearing aids, to low-income adults and under-served children in Lancaster and around the world. The Circle of Giving hearing aid fittings on Dec. 3 took place at A&E Audiology's Lititz office, 235 Bloomfield Drive, Suite 108.

The mission of A&E Hearing Connection is to build the dignity of those affected by hearing impairment by restoring their hearing potential and providing opportunities for them to engage with their communities through volunteer work. Through the Circle of Giving model, patients pay for hearing services in two ways: a sliding-scale fee based on income or by paying it forward through volunteer hours to a community service organization. This year, Community Action Partners (CAP) was selected as the recipient of the service hours or donations of personal care items. To qualify for the Circle of Giving program, patients must not exceed an annual household income of up to 250% of the federal poverty level. For a family of four, that equates to $66,250 or less.

A&E Hearing Connection is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization designed to meet the needs of people who may otherwise fall between the cracks when it comes to qualifying for certain health care services. A&E Hearing Connection relies on donations, grants, volunteers, and other sources of support from the community to sustain its program.
