Program Will Address Mental Health

Nov 07, 2019 - 7:00 pm

"This Is My Brave: High School Edition," a live presentation of essays, original music, comedy, and poetry, will be performed by area high school students living with or loving someone with a mental health condition. The inaugural mental health storytelling event will take place on Thursday, Nov. 7, at 7 p.m. at the Hershey Theatre, 15 E. Caracas Ave., Hershey. Featured will be Aliyah Green and Neha Sinha.

Attendees can stop by the lobby immediately following the show for a meet-and-greet with the cast, an expert panel and the creative team. The creative team includes executive director and This Is My Brave co-founder Jennifer Marshall, a native of Hershey, and producer Christine Drexler, founder of the WE MATTER Coalition. The panel will include Amber Sessoms, school counselor, Central Dauphin High School; Sharon Engdahl, executive director, American Mental Wellness Association; and Shawna Brent, board-certified adult, child, and adolescent psychiatrist.

Founded in 2014, This Is My Brave is a national mental health nonprofit organization dedicated to ending the stigma and silence surrounding mental health issues by celebrating the stories of real people living successful lives with mental health challenges. The live storytelling events are designed to encourage dialogue and create opportunities for participants and audiences to engage with the topic of mental health.

Separate prices have been set for adults and for students. All tickets are general admission. Due to some mature content and strong language, parental guidance is encouraged for children under age 13.
