Public Library Calendar Posted

New Cumberland Public Library, 1 Benjamin Plaza, New Cumberland, will offer a variety of programs and activities. Programs are free and open to the public, unless stated otherwise.

The Friends of the New Cumberland Public Library will hold preowned book sales from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturdays, April 6 and 20, in Foundation House, located across the shared parking lot. Hardback and paperback books, vintage jewelry, DVDs, music CDs, puzzles, children's books, 33 rpm records, tote bags, note cards, and prints will be available. All proceeds will benefit the library.

The Monday Great Books Discussion Group will meet in the dining room from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Mondays, April 1 and 15. The group will discuss "Cry the Beloved Country" by Alan Paton and "Saint Joan," including the preface, by G.B. Shaw, respectively. Ruth's Mystery Discussion Group will meet on Thursday, April 4, from 10:15 a.m. to noon in the Browsing Room. The focus will be on "Libraries or Bookstore."

Friends of the New Cumberland Public Library will host their Cultural Program on Sunday, April 7, with Connie Holland presenting the "Vintage Quilt Trunk Show" program in Foundation Hall from 3 to 4 p.m. The program will be a showing and description of antique and vintage quilts dating from the mid-1800s through the 1930s. Light refreshments will be provided.

The Book Review Program will feature a review by Barbara Neff of "A Piece of the World" by Christina Baker Kline from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 9, in Foundation Hall. Light refreshments will be served.

The Wednesday Great Books Discussion Group will meet on Wednesdays, April 10 and 24, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the meeting room. "Keeping Things Whole: Readings in Environmental Science" will be reviewed.

An Adult Craft Program - Beaded Earrings will take place on April 10 in the second-floor meeting room. The program will be offered at 1 and 6:30 p.m. Supplies will be provided to create one pair of earrings. Additional supplies will be available for purchase.

A Bit About Seeds and Seed Starting will take place on Thursday, April 11, at 6:30 p.m. in the second-floor meeting room. A Master Gardener will share her knowledge about starting plants from seeds.

A Write-On Writer's Workshop will be held on Saturday, April 13, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the second-floor meeting room. Additionally, open readings are held each Saturday. For more details, readers may call Sue Kerr at 717-802-2594.

Tales for T.A.I.L.S. will be offered from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 2. Children may register for an opportunity to read to a therapy animal from a book of their choosing.

Lego Madness! will be offered on April 5 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. for children ages 4 to 12. The program will include a short story time, then time to build based on a monthly theme or from their own imagination. No registration is needed.

Build and Play will be held on Monday, April 8, at 10:30 a.m. for children ages 3 to 6 and on Tuesday, April 9, at 11:15 a.m. for children ages 6 to 23 months. Families are invited to drop in to build and play with assorted toys and activities that encourage gross motor skills, color recognition, and shape recognition.

Preschool STEM Stations: Coding will be hosted from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday, April 12. The self-guided program is designed for families with children ages 4 to 7. No registration is necessary.

Several story time programs will also be offered. All children must be accompanied by an adult. Registration will open on April 1. Preschool Story Time, open to children ages 4 to 6, will be held on Mondays, April 22 to May 13, at 10:15 a.m. Twos and Threes Story Time will be offered to children ages 2 to 3 on Mondays, April 22 to May 13, at 11 a.m. Book Babies Story Time, open to infants ages 6 to 23 months, will be held at 11:15 a.m. on Tuesdays, April 23 to May 14. 1-2-3 Library! will be held on Mondays, April 22 to May 13, at 6:30 p.m. for children ages 2 to 6.

In addition, Roseanne Wolfe of Mechanicsburg will display a collection of still-life paintings in oil in the second-floor Charley Krone Gallery. Artist Richelle Dourte, who focuses on handcrafted botanical jewelry and metalwork, will display tiny pieces of nature, captured in pendants to celebrate the return of spring, in the first-floor showcase.
