Rec Center Offers Running Programs

Lititz recCenter provides programming and training focused on running success. The programming is for beginners looking to add running to their personal fitness goals or recreation plans, as well as for more accomplished runners who are seeking to move on to a new competitive challenge.

On Mondays through the summer and fall, a Running and Triathlon Club meets for peers to train together and to help mentor and motivate runners. New runners and athletes are welcome to join in Mondays at the Lititz recCenter from 7 to 8 p.m. There is a monthly participation fee.

For individuals who have added competing in a 5K to their goals, a First Steps to 5K program will begin on Wednesday, June 19, and continue Wednesdays from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. through the summer. Participants with all levels of running experience are welcome to train with the group and an instructor. Fees for the program include a registration for the Lititz recCenter's annual Pretzel Twist 5K on Saturday, Sept. 21.

Summer running and training will lead up to two community events hosted by Lititz recCenter. Program participants are invited to take part in the annual Lititz recCenter Triathlon on Sunday, Aug. 4, and the Pretzel Twist 5K. Registrations for both events are open. Roughly 150 to 200 competitors enter each event. Courses for the running races are moderate, making the events ideal for both beginners and veteran athletes who wish to improve their personal performances.

For youths interested in running sports and events, Lititz recCenter offers a Kids Mile Marathon as part of the Pretzel Twist event. Children age 5 and up may register with Lititz recCenter and receive a tracking sheet to record 25 miles of personal running through September. Their final 1.2 miles is completed during the Kids Mile Marathon race at the Pretzel Twist.

Children can also take part in a Youth Triathlon hosted by Lititz recCenter in the afternoon on Friday, Oct. 4. Youths age 7 and up from any local schools will compete in swimming, biking, and running events just like an adult triathlon, but with adjusted distances.
