The Lancaster County Department of Parks and Recreation will offer programs to the community. Unless otherwise noted, there is a per-person fee for the programs. Unless noted separately, programs will take place at the Environmental Center in Lancaster County Central Park, 1 Nature's Way, Lancaster. Registration and payment are required by noon on the business day before the event, unless stated otherwise.
Make Your Own Ant Farm will be held from 1 to 2:30 p.m. on Friday, June 7, and is open to children age 5 and older. A naturalist will demonstrate how to make an ant farm and collect ants to populate it. All necessary supplies will be provided, and step-by-step instructions will be shared. Participants will learn all about ant anatomy and behavior along the way, then discuss food and maintenance for a colony. Participants will take home their ant farm.
Discover and Celebrate: World Oceans Day, a program for people of all ages, will take place on Saturday, June 8, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Through activities and discussion, participants will learn about oceans.
Open to people of all ages, Attract Hummingbirds to Your Yard will be held from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Monday, June 10. A naturalist will share about the life cycle of the ruby-throated hummingbird. Participants will take a close-up look at all the specialized features on this tiny bird and learn its nesting and feeding habits to help make their yard a special place for hummingbirds.
