Recreational Programs Set

Lancaster County Department of Parks and Recreation will offer programs to the community. Unless otherwise noted, there is a per-person fee for the programs, and activities will take place at the Environmental Center in Lancaster County Central Park, 1 Nature's Way, Lancaster. Additionally, unless noted otherwise, registration and payment are required by noon on the business day before the event. Leave the Crowds Behind, for people age 6 and up, will take place on Friday, Nov. 27, from 10 a.m. to noon at Money Rocks County Park, 936 Narvon Road, Narvon. Attendees will examine rocks and look for blooming witch hazel on a late fall hike. They should dress for the weather, bring water, and wear shoes appropriate for hiking on hilly and rocky trails for 3 to 4 miles.

Homeschool Wednesday: Winter Adaptations of Reptiles and Amphibians, geared toward youths ages 8 to 12, will be offered on Wednesday, Dec. 2, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. and from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Students will explore the winter survival strategies of snakes, turtles, lizards, frogs, toads, and salamanders. Participants should plan for outdoor activity. Children under age 8 are welcome if accompanying older siblings.

Thursday in the Park: Where Have the Insects Gone? will take place on Thursday, Dec. 3, from 1 to 2 p.m. and from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. Children ages 6 to 9 will discover the ways that summer insects survive the winter. They should dress for the weather and plan for outdoor activities. Children under age 6 are welcome if accompanying older siblings.

Reindeer Games, for people age 5 and up, will be offered on Friday, Dec. 4, from 11 a.m. to noon. Participants will learn about wild reindeer and then play large group running games.
