Lancaster County Department of Parks and Recreation will offer programs to the community. Unless otherwise noted, there is a per-person fee, and activities will take place at the Environmental Center in Lancaster County Central Park, 1 Nature's Way, Lancaster. Additionally, registration and payment are required by noon on the business day before the event. Brownie WOW Journey: Love and Save Water will be offered to Brownie Girl Scouts age 6 and older on Saturday, Oct. 2, from 9 to 11 a.m. Participants may complete their Wonders of Water Journey in this second session. Girls should dress for indoor and outdoor activities, including a fabric-painting project, and bring closed-toe shoes like old sneakers for the creek. Girls should each bring a plain white fabric bag.
Homeschool Wednesday: Ocean Geology will take place on Wednesday, Oct. 6, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. The homeschool science class is open to students ages 8 to 12. Participants should wear old clothes and plan for indoor and outdoor activities. Children under age 8 are welcome if accompanying older siblings.
Jump Into STEM - Make Your Own Nature Journals, for children ages 3 to 5, will be held on Thursday, Oct. 7, from 10 to 11 a.m. Children will collect different items to make the journals and then put them together. Construction paper, glue, markers, and crayons will be provided.
Thursday in the Park: Rascally Rodents, for children ages 6 to 9, has been set for Oct. 7 from 1 to 2 p.m. Children will discover the features that make a rodent a mammal and explore rodents' diversity. They should dress for indoor and outdoor activities. Children under age 6 are welcome if accompanying older siblings.
Tweens and Teens: Bottle Rocket Launch will take place from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Oct. 7. Youths ages 11 to 17 will create a two-liter bottle rocket to launch with an air pressure pump. Each participant must bring an empty two-liter bottle.
Munchkin Science: Critters Under a Log has been set for Tuesday, Oct. 12, from 1 to 2 p.m. Children ages 3 to 5 can inspect critters up close in bug containers and in a tub using hand lenses. Registration and prepayment must be made by noon on Friday, Oct. 8.
