Lancaster County Department of Parks and Recreation will offer programs to the community. Unless otherwise noted, there is a per-person fee for the programs, and activities will take place at the Environmental Center in Lancaster County Central Park, 1 Nature's Way, Lancaster. Additionally, registration and payment are required by noon on the business day before the event. Stream Study 2.0 will take place on Saturday, May 15, from 1 to 3 p.m. Individuals age 8 and older will conduct a stream study in Mill Creek with a naturalist. Participants will survey and log data regarding macroinvertebrate life. Closed-toe shoes are required for everyone entering the stream.
Homeschool Wednesday: Spring Tree ID, open to students ages 8 to 12, will be offered on Wednesday, May 19. Two sessions will be available from 10 to 11:30 a.m. and from 1 to 2 p.m. Students will complement their winter tree identification skills with the recognition of common leaves in the local woodland. Participants should plan for outdoor activity. Children under age 8 are welcome if accompanying older siblings.
Thursday in the Park: Stream Study, for children ages 6 to 9, has been set for Thursday, May 20, from 10 to 11 a.m. and from 1 to 2 p.m. Children will discover and examine immature insects as well as creatures like crayfish. Children should dress for the weather and plan for water activity. Everyone entering the stream must wear closed-toe shoes like old sneakers; Crocs and flip-flops are not acceptable. Children under age 6 are welcome if accompanying older siblings.
