Elizabethtown Area High School seniors Sarah Rhine and Marcial Limas were named the Rotary Club of Elizabethtown's Students of the Month for February. They were honored for their high academic achievement, extensive school involvement, and community service activities.
Sarah is the daughter of Kathryn Rittle of Elizabethtown. She is the secretary for the Key Club. Sarah has played the alto saxophone in the marching and concert bands all four years of high school. Throughout high school, she has also been active with the newspaper club, the ski club, and the softball team. During her senior year, she was a member of the school's Science Olympiads team, competing in the Fossils and Dynamic Planet events.
Sarah is a member of the National Honor Society. She placed first in the Elizabethtown Rotary Club's Four-Way Test essay contest and second in the club's speech contest. Sarah received the underclassman award for academic excellence in photography.
In the community, Sarah is an active member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Mount Joy. She has participated in the live Nativity scene as Mary, volunteered with the clothing drive, supported the church's Rise Against Hunger and Pay It Forward events, and assisted with the Juniper Village Arts Day.
Sarah plans to attend a four-year year university to pursue a degree in aerospace engineering.
Marcial is the son of Celestino and Melody Limas of Elizabethtown. He is a member of the National Honor Society. The College Board named Marcial a Hispanic Scholar in the National Hispanic Recognition Program for his performance on the PSAT.
Marcial is active with the school's Competition Science teams and the Engineering Club. In the Science Olympiad competition, Marcial placed first and sixth in the Wright Stuff category at the regional and state levels, respectively. He placed third and fifth in the Mission Possible category at the regional and state levels, respectively. At the Science Olympiad Invitational level, he placed fourth in the Mission Possible category and fifth in the Gravity Vehicle category. Marcial placed first in the Sea, Air, and Land challenge in the group Air division through the Engineering Club. He has earned Academic Excellence Awards in Advanced Placement (AP) Language & Composition, AP Calculus, Net Sports, and Career & Finance.
In the community, Marcial has volunteered at the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank in Harrisburg and Northwest Harvest, a nonprofit food distribution organization in Yakima, Wash.
Limas plans to attend a four-year university to major in physics, economics, or mathematics.
