"Roar" VBS Posted

"Roar!" vacation Bible school (VBS) will be hosted by St. John's Center United Church of Christ (UCC), 432 Reading Road, East Earl, from Sunday, July 28, through Thursday, Aug. 1, from 6:30 to 8:45 p.m. each evening.

Each evening will feature a Bible drama from a Scripture that pertains to the lesson to be learned that day. Bible stories will include the Israelites being slaves in Egypt, God sending plagues on Egypt, the Israelites entering the wilderness, Jesus dying and coming back to life, and the Israelites building a memorial to remember God's goodness.

In addition to the Bible drama, the VBS will include songs, sports, snacks, crafts, and science activities. Children will learn to look for evidence of God all around them.

On Aug. 1, parents will be invited to join the children in the sanctuary from the beginning of the evening to hear songs the children learned, hear a final Bible story, and watch a slideshow presentation about the activities the children participated in throughout the week. The VBS will end with group pictures, an ice cream social and the annual tradition of having the Weaverland Valley Fire Department provide "water soaker" fun.

Children will participate in two local mission projects. The first will be collecting food items for the Northeast Lancaster Food Bank in Terre Hill. The second will be collecting monetary donations to benefit CrossNet Ministries' Pathways to Housing Capital Campaign. Pathways to Housing is a program specifically designed for those who are experiencing or about to experience homelessness in eastern Lancaster County.

Roar! is for children age 3 who are potty-trained through children in sixth grade. For more information or a registration form, readers may call St. John's Center UCC at 717-445-5622 or visit http://www.stjohnscenterucc.org.
