Lampeter-Strasburg High School's FTC Team 7244, Out of the Box Robotics, has set its sights on a fourth bid to compete at FIRST Robotics World Championships.
After just three tournaments, the team has earned the following titles for 2019-20: N.J. Champion Alliance First Captain Pick, Pennsylvania Finalist Alliance First Captain Pick, and N.J. Champion Alliance Captain. The team also held the world record alliance score for a few days, according to senior Lander Holsinger.
FIRST World Championships is a five-day event celebrating science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). FIRST Robotics teams from around the world congregate for the event.
FIRST is an all-volunteer global organization offering a variety of programs for youths. Programs include FIRST Lego League Jr., FLL, FTC and FRC, an all-high school program designed to mimic real-world pressures of hard stop-time constraint. The Pennsylvania FTC Championship will take place at Red Lion Area Senior High School on Thursday, Feb. 20, and Sunday, March 1. Local FIRST events are free and open to the public. Children of all ages are welcome to attend.
