The Susquehanna Folk Music Society (SFMS) will present a concert by Charm City Junction on Sunday, Feb. 10, at 7:30 p.m. at Appalachian Brewing Company, 50 N. Cameron St., Harrisburg.
The Baltimore-based group puts a new spin on old-time music, incorporating bluegrass and Celtic music. Charm City Junction released its debut album in the fall of 2015. The group's members include Patrick McAvinue on fiddle, Brad Kolodner on banjo, Alex Lacquement on upright bass, and Sean McComiskey on button accordion.
McAvinue has performed at Carnegie Hall, The Kennedy Center, and The Birchmere, along with the Country Rendezvous Festival in Crappone, France, and the U.S. embassy in Quito, Ecuador. He currently tours with the acclaimed bluegrass super-group Dailey & Vincent.
Kolodner, son of world-renowned hammered dulcimer player and fiddler Ken Kolodner, has rapidly gained national attention for his approach to clawhammer banjo. He is a performer, teacher, Strathmore artist in residence, disc jockey, jam leader, community builder, and ambassador for Appalachian folk music.
Lacquement's love for jazz, which he studied at Eastman School of Music and James Madison University, brought him to the upright bass. He performs jazz, old-time, and bluegrass music and has also performed with singer-songwriters. In addition to being an ensemble player and soloist, he is an arranger, composer, and producer.
McComiskey, the son of legendary button accordion player Billy McComiskey, has been surrounded by Irish traditional music his entire life, and he has become a noted Irish accordionist far beyond his native Baltimore. He has been a highly regarded teacher with the Catskills Irish Arts Week; Augusta Heritage Center's Irish Arts Week; Chris Langan Weekend in Toronto; CCE Musical Arts and Dance Week in Washington, D.C.; the Baltimore Irish Arts Center; and the Spanish Peaks Celtic Festival.
Separate ticket prices have been set for general admission, for SFMS members, and for students ages 4 to 22. Advance tickets are available by visiting http://www.brownpapertickets.com or calling 800-838-3006. For more information, readers may visit http://www.sfmsfolk.org.
