Lancaster Country Day School, 725 Hamilton Road, Lancaster, has announced the public phase of its "Raise the Curtain!" capital campaign to fund the creation of a fully equipped theater on its campus in Lancaster. The family of the late Eugene H. Gardner Sr. has pledged a leadership gift of $5 million toward the enterprise. In honor of his contributions, the facility will be named Gardner Theatre. A ceremonial groundbreaking will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 17, at the Country Day campus.
The new performance space will provide an enhanced arts facility for its students as well as substantial performance resources for the broader regional community. The school's existing 250-seat Steinman Theatre will be retained and repurposed for rehearsals and black-box performances. Gardner Theatre will have 580 seats and will feature an orchestra pit, state-of-the-art lighting and acoustics, fly space, and a full-size stage. The dimensions of the new theater and its professional-level fittings will allow for enhanced orchestral, vocal, and dramatic productions.
