School Holds Career Fair

When the "What in the World" Career Fair came to John Beck Elementary earlier this year, the school's 80 sixth-graders attended the event to help them start thinking about their future. The funds for the program were received through a Warwick Education Foundation grant applied for by teacher Erica Breckenmaker.

The foundation sees its role as helping the schools by funding Career Fairs that focus on different areas of the full science, technology, engineering, arts, and math (STEAM) spectrum. For the Beck event, Breckenmaker brought in four area professionals engaged in science-based careers: Dr. Jon C. Wenger, principal chemist, pharmaceutical raw materials, Eurofins Lancaster Laboratories; Dr. Kristie Berkstresser, assistant professor of nursing, Pennsylvania College of Health Sciences; Jodie Linard, cardiovascular specialist, UPMC Pinnacle, Lititz; and Dr. David Manning, professor of physics at Thaddaeus Stevens College of Technology. The speakers shared information about their jobs and the education required for these positions.

The Warwick Education Foundation strives to enrich education for Warwick students. Grants totaling $2 million have funded educational programs and opportunities beyond those provided by the school district.
