Elizabethtown Area Middle School recently held its 2019 spelling bee. Eighth-grader Emma Creason won by correctly spelling the word "redundancy." The bee was open to middle school students and was based on grade-level words determined by the Scripps National Spelling Bee.
Seventh-grader Liz Givens placed second, followed by eighth-grader Rose Manton in third place and seventh-grader Allison Norman in fourth place. These four students took a written test in late February in an attempt to qualify for the Lancaster County Spelling Bee.
Based on the county-wide results on the written test, both Emma and Rose qualified to compete in the Lancaster County Spelling Bee, to be held on Friday, March 22, at 7 p.m. The event will be live streamed at https://nie.lancasteronline.com/spelling-bee-scripps.
