School Lauds Patches, Smucker

Molly Patches and Nicholas Smucker, seniors at Lampeter-Strasburg High School, have been selected as Lancaster South Rotary Club's Students of the Month for February. They were presented to the club at its virtual meeting by Ben Feeney, principal of Lampeter-Strasburg High School. Students of the Month are selected on the basis of academic excellence as well as school and community service.

Molly is the daughter of Edward Patches of Strasburg. She has consistently received honor roll recognition, including distinguished honor roll achievement, and is a member of the National Honor Society. Molly is also a member of the girls' lacrosse team and in 2019 was named the Offensive Most Valuable Player for the junior varsity team.

In the community, Molly is a member of the youth group at her church and attended Leadership Training Camp.

Next year, Molly will attend Millersville University, where she plans to study government and political affairs.

Nick is the son Lloyd and Cindy Smucker of Lancaster. Nick has consistently received honor roll recognition and is a member of the National Honor Society and the Tri-M Music Honor Society, where he serves as an officer. Nick also serves as treasurer of the senior class. He is a member of the Model United Nations Club and the Ski and Snowboard Club, and he mentors as a High School Hero. Nick is a member of the marching and jazz bands, where he plays drums, and was selected this year for the PMEA District 7 Band and Orchestra.

In the community, Nick is a drummer for his church band.

Next year, Nick will attend Belmont University to study music and business.
