On July 22, Michael De La Parra Gurr, 16, was honored for his completion of all requirements to attain the rank of Eagle Scout. He is a member of Troop 72. The troop is sponsored by the Lancaster Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1210 E. King St., Lancaster, where his Court of Honor was held.
For his Eagle Scout project, Michael directed volunteers in the production of 200 hand-tied polar fleece blankets. He then donated the blankets to the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) of Lititz for the care of its patients.
Michael is the son of Mauricio and Lani De La Parra of Lancaster (Manheim Township). He is a junior at Manheim Township High School. He is also completing four years of early morning seminary classes to study the standard works of his church.
Special attendees at the Court of Honor included Scoutmaster Steven Peris, youth leader Ryan Zerbe, Bishop John Hume, and Cub Scout leaders Virginia Hume and Dawn Shahan. Michael presented pins of gratitude to his parents for their support of his Scouting career, and he presented Peris with the mentor award for Peris' guidance through six years of Scouting.
