Southern End Community Association (SECA) will offer the following American Heart Association (AHA) courses through Rouge Enterprises: Heartsaver CPR/AED Training, Heartsaver First Aid Training, and Basic Life Support for the Health Care Provider.
All courses are classroom, instructor-led courses, which are taught in one session. Upon completion of the course, students receive an AHA completion card, valid for two years.
The Heartsaver CPR/AED Training course covers adult CPR and AED use, opioid-associated life-threatening emergencies, adult choking, child CPR and AED use, child choking, infant CPR, and infant choking. This course is for anyone with little or no medical training who needs a course completion card for job, regulatory, or other requirements. These courses can also be taken by anyone who wants to be prepared for an emergency in any setting. The class features group interaction and hands-on coaching and feedback from an AHA instructor. There is a fee for the four-hour course. The course will be offered on Thursday, Nov. 14, from 6 to 10 p.m.; Saturday, Dec. 14, from 1 to 5 p.m.; and Thursday, Jan. 9, 2020, from 6 to 10 p.m.
The Heartsaver First Aid Training course covers first aid basics; medical emergencies involving breathing, choking, allergic reactions, heart attacks, strokes, and more; injury emergencies including external and internal bleeding, wounds, sprains, broken bones, burns, and more; environmental emergencies such as bites and stings, cold- and heat-related emergencies, poisonings, and more; and preventing illness and injury. The class features group interaction and hands-on coaching and feedback from an AHA instructor. There is a fee for the three-hour course, which will be offered on Saturday, Dec. 14, from 9 a.m. to noon, and Monday, Jan. 13, from 6 to 9 p.m.
The Basic Life Support for the Health Care Provider course is for health care professionals and other personnel who need to know how to perform CPR and other basic cardiovascular life support skills in a wide variety of in-facility and pre-hospital settings. The class covers new science and education from the 2015 AHA Guidelines Update for CPR and ECC; the components of high-quality CPR for adults, children, and infants; the AHA Chain of Survival for pre-hospital and in-facility providers; important early use of an AED; effective ventilations using a barrier device; the importance of teams in multi-resucuer resuscitation and performing as an effective team member during multi-rescuer CPR; and relief of foreign-body airway obstruction (choking) for adults and infants. Instructors deliver both the knowledge portion of training and the hands-on component of skills practice and testing in a classroom setting. The course is four hours or three hours for renewal, and there is a fee. The course will be offered on Tuesday, Dec. 17, and Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2020.
