South Central York County Senior Center, 150 E. Main St., New Freedom, has posted its schedule of activities, which are open to members only. To become members, readers may stop by the senior center with photo identification. The center serves a hot lunch each day at 11:30 a.m. Attendees are encouraged to arrive by 11:20 a.m. For more information, readers may call 717-235-6060.
Each day, the center offers a tai chi class at 10:15 a.m. and isometric exercises at 9:15 a.m. Members may use the exercise equipment or walk in the gym each morning. The center also offers stretch yoga on Mondays at 9 a.m., line dancing on Wednesdays at 10 a.m., Zumba on Thursdays at 8:30 a.m., a balance and core exercise class on Tuesdays at 9 a.m., a balance with weights class on Wednesdays at 9 a.m., a beginner balance and core exercise class on Thursdays at 8:30 a.m., and a more challenging weights and balance class on Fridays.
The salsa dance class has been discontinued due to lack of participation.
The center offers an acrylic art class on Mondays at 9:30 a.m., a watercolor art class on Tuesdays at 9:30 a.m., ceramics on Wednesdays at 9:15 a.m., Walking Through the Bible on Thursdays at 8:45 a.m., the Friends Together Craft Class on Fridays at 9 a.m., and a card making class every other Monday after lunch. The blanket knotting service project meets on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings. A quilter group meets every other Wednesday to work on lap robes for veterans and other projects. A movie and popcorn are available once a month, and a jewelry making class is being organized. A podiatrist visits the center every nine weeks, and a nurse visits each month to check blood pressures.
A group from the center is knitting hats for Coats of Friendship, an organization that provides hats and gently used coats to homeless people in the area. The center offers Bunco on Thursdays at 9:15 a.m. The group welcomes additional players.
For center members who live in the New Freedom, Shrewsbury, and Glen Rock areas and who no longer drive or who do not have transportation, the center can arrange for transportation to and from the center via rabbittransit. The service is available free for anyone age 65 and over.
The senior center also seeks Meals on Wheels volunteer drivers, and a driver for the Stewartstown route is needed as soon as possible. The center delivers meals to seniors on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings. Helpers volunteer one morning every four weeks. For more information, readers may call the senior center.
