Picnics in the Park will continue on Monday, Aug. 12, at Rocky Ridge Park at Chestnut Oak pavilion. Attendees can meet at September House to travel out at about 9:30 a.m. This outing will include a demonstration of Tang Soo Do, as performed by the group that meets on Wednesdays.
The senior center will offer its next Tang Soo Do class on Wednesday, August 14, from 1 to 3 p.m. New students of all ages are welcome.
On Wednesdays and Fridays at 2 p.m., visitors will be shown how to use the exercise equipment in the workout room. The Fit N Fun exercise program is offered daily from 10 to 10:30 a.m. There are dancing classes on Wednesdays, with exercise games on select Fridays. Other activities include the Healthy Steps routine for balance and strength and HasFit and Growing Young routines for cardiovascular and general health benefits.
A planning meeting will be held on Thursday, Aug. 15, at 10:30 a.m. Members are encouraged to share ideas about future activities. All are welcome to give feedback and discuss the upcoming calendar. On Friday, Aug. 16, there will be two planning sessions for trips, with the 2020 cruise covered from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. and the September trip to Ocean City, Md., discussed from 1:30 to 3 p.m.
For those who would like to learn the art of wood burning, appropriate tools and members with the appropriate skills will be on hand from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. on Aug. 16 to help attendees get started. Also on Aug. 16, at 12:30 p.m., the "Experiencing God" Bible study will continue.
Games are played throughout the week. Bingo is played on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 12:45 p.m., with the first card free, and on Wednesdays for all cash as a fundraiser, with doors opening at 5 p.m. and bingo starting at 6:30 p.m. The center offers shuffleboard on Mondays and Tuesdays from 9 to 11 a.m., and additional players are being sought. All are welcome to play or watch. Board games, cards and jigsaw puzzles are also available.
On weekdays, a free lunch is served to any York County resident at least 60 years of age. Volunteers are also sought to deliver hot meals to home-bound seniors three mornings a week, with training is provided. Volunteer work may be tax-deductible.
