Elizabethtown Area School District student Mackenzie Smith is the Elizabethtown Lions Club CTC Student of the Month for January.
Smith said that attending the Lancaster County CTC lets her focus more intently on art-centric classes in preparation to pursue her goal of attending Full Sail University in Florida after graduation to study digital art and design. Smith hopes one day to work in illustration/graphic design and concept art, creating logos, advertisements, and corporate identity packages for businesses, concept art for musicals and plays, or characters for video games.
Mackenzie is a senior at Elizabethtown Area High School (EAHS) and has been involved in activities such as the chorus and show choir, GSA club, and literary magazine club. For the school musical, she was a part of the cast, a member of the crew in charge of scenery painting, and the lead makeup artist. At EAHS, she has also been a member of the Rifles Team, recently winning a doubles tournament.
For more than 75 years, the Elizabethtown Lions Club has devoted its energy to serving the greater Elizabethtown area and, through the power of Lions International, the world. The Lions place a special emphasis on providing vision services locally to those who cannot afford it, and the club also provides support to young people through educational and sports award programs. The club also supports the Elizabethtown Community Cupboard, as well as the Elizabethtown and Rheems Fire Departments. Each year, the Elizabethtown Lions Club performs several service projects and holds fundraising activities to enable those projects. Each May, the club awards scholarships to several EASH seniors.
The Elizabethtown Lions Club meets at 6:15 p.m. on the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month at the Elizabethtown Fire Department, 171 N. Mount Joy St., Elizabethtown.
