Society Plans Presentation

The South Hanover Historical Society is partnering with the Hummelstown Area Historical Society and South Hanover Township Administration to stage several events this year to celebrate the 175th anniversary of Union Deposit. The first event is a presentation about the history of the Union Canal. It will begin at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 16, in the Community Room of the South Hanover Township Building, 161 Patriot Way.

Wade Seibert's presentation will be about the construction, financing and operation of the canal, which ran through Dauphin, Lebanon and Berks counties. The economic impact of the canal on the village of Union Deposit will also be discussed.

Details about other planned events to celebrate Union Deposit's 175th anniversary will be announced. Everyone is welcome, and there is no admission charge.
