Solanco Writers Win Awards

Solanco High School students Kara Armstrong and Lance Workman have received recognition in the Scholastic Writing Awards.

Among Kara's accolades are Gold Key Awards for her science fiction and fantasy piece "Lonely," her flash fiction piece "Perfect Little Things" and her short story "When the Stars Appear." "Lonely" was also nominated for an American Voices Award. Kara also received a Silver Key for her flash fiction work "Catherine" and honorable mentions for her flash fiction piece "Marigolds and Other Dying Things" and her short story "Silence."

Lance earned two Scholastic Silver Key Awards. His award-winning poems are "What Remains of a 20 Minute Conversation" and "A New Hope."
