Craving something sweet? Look no further than downtown Mount Joy when the annual Chocolate Walk takes place on Friday, Feb. 25, from 5 to 8 p.m. and on Saturday, Feb. 26, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The Chocolate Walk will provide participants with a chance to sample treats and experience all that downtown Mount Joy has to offer, explained Dave Schell, executive director of Main Street Mount Joy. After purchasing a ticket, participants will begin their walk with a stop at the Main Street Mount Joy office, 55 E. Main St. "We give them a box with a secret map of locations where they can stop and get chocolate," Schell stated. "They take their box from location to location and fill it with chocolate goodies. By the end of the walk, they will have a full box."
Schell said he anticipates about 20 businesses will participate in the walk, and all will distribute handmade or high-end chocolates. Main Street Mount Joy purchases chocolates from Lancaster-based Evans Candy for several businesses, he noted, while other locations make their own candy or choose from other suppliers.
The Chocolate Walk will also feature wine tastings at some locations, and some local vineyards will be selling wine as well.
Schell said the Chocolate Walk has been offered for more than 10 years, and it provides an interactive way to promote local businesses. "This is a great event to bring people downtown and walk inside businesses," he stated. "While they are getting their chocolate goodies, they can also discover something new about a business or walk inside a business for the first time. This is also a fundraising event for Main Street Mount Joy and helps our organization provide business services to the downtown."
He said the Chocolate Walk covers about three blocks in Mount Joy and can easily be completed in the three-hour timeframe either day. He noted that tickets are required for the event and are selling quickly. "We are not anticipating any tickets being available the day of the event," he remarked, adding that previous Chocolate Walk events have sold out. "It's best to purchase them online while they are available."
