The main exhibit at the AACA Museum, 161 Museum Drive, Hershey, for the spring and summer seasons will be "Studebaker Cool: 114 Years of Innovation." This new feature exhibit will explore the South Bend, Ind., company's contribution to wheeled transportation history with a vast array of vehicles. The exhibit will run from Saturday, May 18, to Sunday, Oct. 20.
A spring exhibit opening will take place on Friday, May 17, from 5:30 to 9 p.m. The event will feature a discussion on everything Studebaker followed by a book signing with Studebaker experts Andrew Beckman, archivist for the Studebaker Museum; Patrick Foster, automotive historian and author; and Mark James, Hawk expert and author. The program will be moderated by Bill Rothermel, automotive historian and writer. Advance registration is required by visiting http://www.aacamuseum.org.
The exhibit will primarily focus on the last 60 years of Studebaker automobile production, ending in 1966. It will also include information on the Studebaker Brothers' start as a wagon manufacturer helping settlers move across the American frontier.
"Studebaker Cool: 114 Years of Innovation" will include everything from vehicles of the early World War I era to the supercharged fiberglass Avanti sports car of the early 1960s. It will include a rare sampling of trucks and modified cars, as well as the Studebaker the public never saw - the 1962 Sceptre.
In addition, the industrial design work of Raymond Loewy will be showcased in the Members 1st Gallery during the same exhibit period in coordination with the Hagley Museum and Library along with the Raymond Loewy Estate. Other special exhibits on view will include a rotating display area featuring a collection of Pontiac and Oakland vehicles. This display will begin with the GTO model but will change at various points over the summer.
