Students from Lebanon Valley College (LVC), Annville, along with an LVC alumnus and two faculty advisers, recently completed a week-long service learning trip to the Dominican Republic. During the trip, LVC volunteers taught English to elementary-age students in a public school each morning and in the afternoons served in two after-school learning centers established by Outreach360, an organization dedicated to providing educational opportunities to underserved children in Latin America.
Local students include Cassandra Barrett of Hummelstown, Lucy Krikorian of Palmyra, and Alexander Gingrich of Palmyra. Barrett, a graduate of Harrisburg Christian School, is pursuing a Bachelor of Arts degree in English. Krikorian is a graduate of Palmyra Area High School and is pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in early childhood education and special education. Gingrich, a graduate of Palmyra Area High School, is pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in biochemistry and molecular biology.
