Students Help With Gardening Program

The Impact Foundation (IF), a student-led committee of the York Suburban Education Foundation (YSEF), in partnership with Sprout of Hope (SOH), is offering a fresh food farmers market each Wednesday through the summer, with produce harvested from York Suburban's Valley View Elementary (VVE) garden, the Horn Farm and other SOH community gardens. The farmers market is open to students and families of York Suburban School District that attend the free lunch program on Wednesdays from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at York Suburban Middle School.

The garden at VVE was planted by SOH, a nonprofit group founded by York Suburban alumni. YSEF/IF is an independent nonprofit with a mission of helping to do more for York Suburban students.

The effort is coordinated with York Suburban social worker Miranda King, who assists the IF students and SOH in distributing the food to York Suburban families in need. Families attending the summer lunch program can take home a bag of home-grown produce and other dry goods purchased by YSEF free of charge.
