Two Lower Dauphin students received Do the Right Thing recognition by Lower Dauphin Communities That Care and the Hummelstown Police Department.
South Hanover Elementary School second-grader Kaiya Horn was nominated by teacher Maureen McCann after she found a medical ID tag on the school bus, recognized that it was important and called the number on the tag. She then brought the tag to school so it could be returned to the student who had lost it.
Lower Dauphin Middle School teacher Kim Levis said that seventh-grader Jacob Mader was waiting on the sidewalk one morning before school because he has a friend who can get anxious about walking into the building alone. So he walks into the school with her every day.
The students received gift cards, T-shirts, certificates, and pizza coupons.
The Do the Right Thing program recognizes students in the Lower Dauphin community who have distinguished themselves through their accomplishments, attitude or outstanding efforts. The program provides a way to recognize good deeds and reinforce exemplary behavior.
