Local firefighters recently visited Lower Dauphin School District elementary schools to teach children about fire safety.
Firefighters from Grantville Volunteer Fire Company spent much of a week at East Hanover Elementary School, teaching students a variety of fire safety lessons. The activities culminated on Oct. 6 with fifth-graders using fire extinguishers to put out a live fire in the school's parking lot.
Members of Hummelstown Fire Company 46 visited students in kindergarten through grade three at Nye Elementary School to discuss fire safety tips and stress the importance of smoke detectors and accessible exits from their homes.
During a visit to Conewago Elementary School, firefighters from Hershey Volunteer Fire Department spoke with students in kindergarten through grade two about their job and how to stay safe in a fire.
