Zachary Schaeffer and Sebastian Bookmiller, seniors at Penn Manor High School, have been selected as Lancaster South Rotary Club's Students of the Month for December 2020. They were presented to the club at its virtual meeting by Baron Jones, principal of Penn Manor High School. Students of the Month are selected on the basis of academic excellence as well as school and community service.
Zachary is the son of Richard and Melissa Schaeffer of Washington Boro. He has consistently received honor roll recognition and is a member of the National Honor Society. He has been a member of Manor Singers during his junior and senior years and has participated in chorus for four years. During his sophomore and junior years, Zachary was the assistant section leader for the tenor section for Manor Singers and chorus; during his senior year, he was the section leader for the bass section of chorus. He also performed in the production of "The Wizard of Oz" during his junior year. Zachary was a member of the football team as a freshman and sophomore and was a member of the golf team as a senior. He is a four-year member of the Civil War Club.
In the community, Zachary volunteers for various organizations, including the Lancaster County Project for the Needy.
Zachary plans to attend Penn State University to pursue a degree in secondary education. His goal is to become a secondary social studies teacher.
Sebastian is the son of Robert and Kirsten Bookmiller of Millersville. He has consistently received honor roll recognition and is a member of the National Honor Society. He is also a member of the Model UN and the Mock Trial team and is a Student Ambassador. Sebastian represented Penn Manor High School at National Federation of High Schools (NFHS) activities. He is a member of the orchestra, where he plays the violin, and he is a part of the varsity soccer team. Sebastian was selected as a 2020 Lancaster-Lebanon League Section 1 Academic All-Star.
In the community, Sebastian participates in the Attollo Prep program and coaches soccer for Legacy Futures.
Sebastian plans to attend the University of Pittsburgh to study political science and economics.
