Twenty Conestoga Valley (CV) students will continue their athletic careers at the intercollegiate level for programs that compete in the NCAA's Division I, II or III. The students announced their commitments on Feb. 6.
Juliana Bedoya plans to play soccer at the University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg and major in nursing. Bedoya was a member of the 2018 Lancaster-Lebanon (L-L) League runner-up team and district qualifying team as an attacking midfielder. As a sophomore, she scored the tying goal in the L-L League semifinal game to send the game into overtime and then scored the winning goal in overtime to help her team advance to the L-L League finals. She was a member of the 2017 district championship team that advanced to the state finals.
Charles Braught will play lacrosse at Susquehanna University and major in environmental studies. Braught served as captain of the CV lacrosse team his junior year. In his sophomore year, he was recognized with the Stockwell Award and in his junior year earned the Offensive MVP Award. In addition to playing lacrosse, Braught has participated in club ice hockey, where he served as a captain for his junior and senior years, and was a CPIHL All-Star in his senior year.
Sarah Castronova has committed to run track for Bloomsburg University, where she will major in nursing. Castronova has competed for four years on the varsity track and field team as a sprinter. She received the team's MVP Award and Coach's Award. In 2018, she set a school record with her 4x100 relay team. At the District 3 meet, Castronova ran the 400-meter run, the 4x100-meter relay and the 4x400-meter relay. She has served as a team captain since her sophomore year.
Hannah Chadwick will play lacrosse at Alvernia University and study health care administration. Chadwick has been a four-year varsity player in lacrosse at midfield and attack. She was an Honorable Mention Conference All-Star her sophomore year, was a Second Team All-Star her junior year and will serve as captain her senior year. She has reached the 100-point milestone in assists and goals with a year remaining in her high school career.
Kahlan Ciardullo will play softball for Penn State Hazleton, where she plans to major in psychology and minor in administration of justice. Ciardullo is a third baseman for the CV softball team. She has a slugging percentage of .500, an on-base percentage of .434 and a batting average of .340.
Nick Denlinger plans to play soccer at Alvernia University and major in marketing. Denlinger played on the Pennsylvania Classics Academy team from ninth to 11th grades and attended the U.S. Soccer ID clinic in ninth grade. He was named an L-L League Section 1 First Team All-Star his senior year, helping his team reach the district tournament in 2018.
Yodhe Desta will play football at Long Island University and major in computer science. Desta has been an Honorable Mention L-L League All-Star, and as a senior, he was named a First Team L-L League tackle. Desta has also been named L-L Player of the Week, and he earned a spot on the Central Pennsylvania All-Star team. Desta is also a wrestler on the 2019 section championship team that recently qualified for the district tournament.
Alisan Dodd will compete in track and field at West Chester University, where she plans to major in business management and minor in human resources. Dodd earned varsity letters in track and field her first three seasons at CV and served as a team captain in her junior year. She was an L-L League meet competitor and medalist in 2017 and 2018 as well as a PIAA District 3 championship competitor in 2018.
Nathan Grucelski will participate in cross-country and track and field at the United States Naval Academy, where he will study mechanical engineering. Grucelski was a two-year captain of the cross-country team and currently holds the CV cross-country school record. In cross-country, he was the 2018 L-L League champion, a PIAA District 3 medalist and a state qualifier. In track, he was the 2017 L-L League champion in the 1600-meter run and the runner-up in the 3200-meter run. He was also a PIAA District 3 medalist in the 1600-meter run and a state qualifier in the 1600-meter run. He currently holds the No. 28 all-time 1600-meter time in L-L League history.
Lauryn Hall will play lacrosse for Bryn Athyn College and study pre-med. Hall played for the Xtreme Lacrosse Club and lettered in varsity lacrosse at CV in grades 10 and 11. She has also participated in cross-country and track.
Kenesha Kelly-Davis will be on the track and field team at Messiah College, where she will major in political science and history and minor in pre-law. Kelly-Davis received the Junior Varsity Athletic Award; on the varsity level, she holds personal bests of 13.6 and 29.1 in the 100-meter and 200-meter races.
Jane Livingston plans to be a hurdler on the track and field team at Villanova University and major in business and minor in Spanish. Livingston is a three-time L-L League champion in the 110 hurdles and a 2018 district champion in the 110 hurdles. She is a two-time state medalist and currently holds the No. 1 all-time 100 hurdle time and the No. 2 all-time 300 hurdle time in L-L League history. At CV, Livingston holds the record for the 300-meter intermediate hurdles and 110-meter high hurdles, and she is a member of the record-breaking 4x100-meter relay team. She was named Female Track Athlete of the Year her sophomore year. Livingston came in 12th place at New Balance Nationals in the 60-meter-high hurdles in 2018. This winter she was the indoor state runner-up in the 60-meter hurdles. Livingston also serves as a team captain.
Michele Lopez will play softball at Millersville University, where she will major in psychology and minor in Spanish. Lopez started as a catcher for her first three years on varsity. She earned First Team Section All-Star status her freshman, sophomore and junior years and All-League as a junior. Lopez earned Class 6A All-State Honorable Mention as a freshman and Class 6A All-State Second Team recognition as a junior. She is a two-time selection for the Carpenter Cup, which is a softball tournament in Philadelphia sponsored by the Phillies. She goes into her senior season with a slugging percentage of .556, an on-base percentage of .509 and a batting average of .422.
Nick Lynam plans to swim for Lehigh University. Lynam swims mid-distance and backstroke on the swim team. He served as team captain this season as he helped lead his team to a section championship. Lynam holds team records in the 200 free and the 500 free and as part of the 200 medley relay. He is also a 2017 and 2018 USA Swimming Scholastic All-American.
Josh MacNamara will attend Millersville University, where he plans to major in biology/botany and wrestle for the Marauders. MacNamara is a member of the 2018 section championship and district qualifying wrestling team. He is a three-year varsity letter winner and starter with a current record of 3-5 and a career record of 84-25. MacNamara is a three-time L-L League place winner, including taking home the championship this year in the 160-pound weight class, and a district qualifier. Captain of the wrestling team, MacNamara has been awarded the CV Wrestler of the Year Award and the CV Wrestling Award for most team points, most pins and most takedowns.
Alex Poli plans to attend Immaculata University to major in cybersecurity and will join the school as a member of the cross-country and track and field teams. His junior year, Poli was named the Most Improved Runner on the cross-country team, and he earned varsity letters both his junior and senior years. He runs the 3200-meter and the mile on the track team with PRs of 10:34.6 and 4:48.
Ryan Querry will play lacrosse at Saint Vincent College and major in business management. Querry has been a three-year varsity starter in lacrosse at midfield and attack.
Kenzie Reed will attend Lycoming College and play basketball. She will major in human resources and minor in business management. This season, Reed broke the CV girls basketball record for points in a single game when she scored 36 points against J.P. McCaskey. In her final game of her career, Reed scored 20 points and pulled down 20 rebounds. Reed also was a First Team Section All-Star.
Aviona Saunders plans to attend East Stroudsburg University, where she will major in nursing and participate in track and field. Saunders is a long jumper and a triple jumper on the track and field team. Saunders was a league champion in the long jump and the runner-up in triple jump in the 2018 season as well as the district runner-up in long jump in 2018. She is the school record holder in long and triple jumps and currently holds the No. 5 all-time long jump and No. 20 triple jump in L-L League history.
Tanner Shertzer will attend Lancaster Bible College and will play soccer and volleyball. In soccer, Shertzer earned Second Team All-Star status in 2018, helping his team qualify for the district tournament. In volleyball, Shertzer earned Second Team All-Star status in 2017, First Team All-Star status in 2018 and All-State Honorable Mention in 2018. Shertzer also serves as captain for both teams.
