Students Win Academic Awards

Undergraduate students across the country missed out on in-person celebrations of their achievements due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but West Chester University (WCU) is among the schools that have continued to honor students with virtual celebrations.

One of the honors is the 1871 Award, established in 2018 to recognize WCU juniors and seniors who are high-achieving in both the academic and co-curricular realms. WCU's founding year is 1871. Each year, up to 71 students are honored for their outstanding accomplishments related to academics, leadership, community engagement, and career readiness.

This year, the inductees for the 1871 Class of 2020 are 34 seniors and 37 juniors.

Students from Chester County include Brandon Barker, junior; Catherine Byrnes, junior; Olivia Cunningham, junior; Gabrielle Davidheiser, senior; Elizabeth Edwards, junior; Abby Forlino, junior; Devon Godek, senior; Savannah Hake, junior; Samantha Harwood, junior; Payton Ingiosi, senior; Michaela Karlesses, junior; Allison LaBella, senior; Isaac Linton, senior; Kristen Loughlin, junior; Brianna McCabe, senior; Jessica Meakim, junior; and Cassandra Tiburcio, junior.

Students from Berks County include Amari Gilmore, senior, and Meredith Miller, senior.
