Students Win Writing Awards

A total of 52 Hempfield School District student entries were recognized as award winners within the Northeast Regional division in the Scholastic Writing Awards.

Seven district students received Gold Key awards, the highest regional honor. Their pieces were slated to be sent to the national competition in New York City for judging. National honors will be announced on Wednesday, March 13.

Students who received Gold Key awards were as follows: Mariana Agadis, eighth grade, Landisville Middle School, Flash Fiction; Elowyn Crescenzi, eighth grade, Centerville Middle School, Poetry; Bronwyn Meldrum, 12th grade, Hempfield High School, Poetry; Mili Ramani, 10th grade, Hempfield High School, Short Story; Leilani Rivera, eighth grade, Centerville Middle School, Short Story; Joseph Striggle, eighth grade, Centerville Middle School, Humor; and Caleb Young, 10th grade, Hempfield High School, Poetry.

Students from Hempfield School District were also recognized as Silver Key and honorable mention winners.

The Scholastic Art and Writing Awards are presented by the Alliance for Young Artists and Writers. The Alliance is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that has the mission to identify students with exceptional artistic and literary talent and present their work to the world through the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards. Students across America submitted nearly 350,000 original works this year in 29 categories of art and writing.
